Mauritius Environment

Like the animals, the indigenous and endemic plant species on Mauritius have dwindled since the arrival of colonists. Today, the original hardwood forest are really only found on the tops of the mountains and tucked away in gorges.

As you'd expect, the island is very green and gardens are full of the usual tropical offerings like bougainvillea and hibiscus.
