With the relatively recent efforts made in conservation, there are now a number of protected areas in Mauritius, and they are beautiful.
Take a break from the ocean and walk or hike through one of these beautiful and peaceful areas. Walk through tropical forests irrigated by the many streams and rivers that flow from the interior of Mauritius.
Rare plants, birds and animals that have been brought back from near extinction fill the reserves with song and colour. Besides the national parks there are also a number of private domaines or large estates that contribute to maintaining the natural vegetation, conservation and also hunting in season.
The island, reached only by boat, has been declared a nature conservation site run by the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation.
