With its warm tropical climate, Mauritius is a year round destination. The best time to visit Mauritius is during the Mauritian summer months October to Easter, especially for a Mauritius beach holiday. When you visit during this time the days are long, hot and sticky making swims in the Ocean more refreshing and the breeze more welcome.

January to April, when the long days can be very hot and humid, the threat of cyclones is often in the air.

You should be prepared to spend a couple of days cooped up indoors during extra-heavy rains if you visit between January and March.

The Mauritian winter occurs from July to September, when daytime temperatures drop from sticky to balmy. Hotel prices can drop over the winter months making some good deals possible.

The cooler weather with less humidity makes this is the time to engage in many of the inland activities offered on the island such as hiking and quad biking.

When to visit Mauritius can be influenced by your particular interests. The best time to go for diving and snorkeling is December through March, when the water is at its clearest.

June through August is best for surfing and October through April is excellent for big game fishing, as this is when the large predators feed close to shore.
