Trou aux Cerfs is the crater of an extinct volcano, just a short walk away from the centre of Curepipe. A tar road leads gently up to the rim, and then around it.

About 300m in diameter, Trou aux Cerfs was formed as a result of volcanic activity, but is now heavily forested and choked up with water and silt. The crater rim affords awesome views around the island of Mauritius, but caution is advised to those who want to scramble down to the water inside the crater.
