The Bazaruto Archipelago has a lot to offer birding enthusiasts. About 150 species have been recorded, including a few which are endemic to Southern Africa.
Some of the species you may see fluttering about include Green Coucals, Green Pigeons, Purple-banded Sunbirds, Lilac Breasted Rollers and Paradise Flycatchers. Listen out for the cry of Fish Eagles and, while strolling along the shoreline, you're sure to see a number of waders.
The Bazaruto islands are also frequented by lesser flamingos from a nearby breeding colony. These graceful creatures are the only East African colony south of Tanzania's Lake Natron.
