If you can tear yourself away from Bazaruto's beautiful beaches, we'd highly recommend an island tour.
A guided drive around Benguerra Island will give you a far deeper understanding of this unique environment. Look out for colourful birds (over 186 species recorded), as you tour freshwater lakes where huge crocodiles lurk, and walk past scuttling crabs to the tops of dunes and a jaw-dropping view of shimmering blue.
Remember to take along your camera, as there'll be plenty of great photographic opportunities, particularly if you go for a walk on the island's "wild side".
You can visit communities in the small villages and learn about local history, or even spend time at the shebeen (local bar), chatting to islanders over a drink or two.
Azura can also organise a tour to Benguerra Island's school - which they fund - to meet the kids and teachers, and on Sundays you can stop by a local church service.
If you're staying at Indigo Bay Island Resort & Spa, you can go on a drive around Bazaruto Island.
Bazaruto Island tours are tailor-made, so you can choose whether you'd like to visit a local village, go birdwatching at the inland lakes, drive to beautiful and remote Sailfish Bay, see the old lighthouse or sip sunset drinks on top of the tall, silky sand dunes.
