The 30-minute boat transfer to Marlin Lodge, across the aquamarine Indian Ocean, should help ease you into the slower pace pace of island life. Benguerra Island is an excellent choice for a leisurely beach holiday; stroll along the beach or laze on your secluded terrace.

The centrepiece of Marlin Lodge is a spacious, wooden and thatched living-dining area with beautiful ocean views. The swimming pool is in a glade of coconut and ilala palms, perfect for a day of lazing and tropical cocktails.

Raised boardwalks limit damage to the sensitive dune environment, and each chalet has its own decked walkway to the beach as well as a private veranda with a hammock.

Part of the Bazaruto Archipelago, the warm tropical waters surrounding Benguerra Island have incredible coral reefs and an abundant sea life. Marlin lodge has a fully equipped dive and snorkel centre as well as a fully equipped tackle and angling centre. The lodge offers a host of water activities including water-skiing, wind surfing, catamaran sailing, knee-boarding or marlin fishing.

There's also a mini wellness centre where you can enjoy refreshing and destressing spa and beauty treatments.

Food at Marlin Lodge consists of Mozambican cuisine, infused with Asian and Portuguese flavours. Local seafood is plentiful; with crayfish, succulent prawns or calamari fresh off the dhow.

Each night you can dine somewhere different. There's a choice of 3 dining areas, or you can have a romantic dinner for 2 on your private terrace.

Beach barbecues are a real treat, with tables on the sand at the end of an avenue of palm fronds and flame torches.

Marlin Lodge has 14 fully furnished luxury chalets and 3 executive suites dotted along the beach of Flamingo Bay.

Private Luxury Chalets: the wood, reed and thatch chalets are beautifully integrated into the environment, and each has a private patio with a walkway down to the beach. These recently renovated chalets have beautiful finishes such as slated flooring and soft lighting, king size 4-poster beds with mosquito nets, his and hers vanity areas and 2 sitting areas.

Executive Beach Suites: the suites are huge, making them ideal for longer stays. The 80sqm floor space is plenty of room for a king size 4-poster bed and 2 seating lounges, while the 30sqm veranda with a hammock is perfect for a private dinner overlooking the sea.

All the rooms have great ocean views. At the end of the day you can drift to sleep listening to the sound of the waves and the wind in the palm trees.
