Nampula Province
Mozambique
Nampula Province was officially called Moçambique during the days of Portuguese colonial rule. When the country gained independence, Mozambique was adopted as its new name and so the province was renamed after its capital, Nampula.
Roughly 3.4 million (2002) people live within the province of Nampula.
