Lugenda Wilderness Camp is in one of the most remote areas of northern Mozambique - the Niassa Reserve, a huge conservation area about twice the size of the Kruger National Park.

Niassa has only recently opened up to the public and, while it does have the greatest concentration of game in Mozambique, this is not the place for those only interested in spotting the 'Big 5'. What Niassa offers is the opportunity to stay in a truly wild corner of the world, surrounded by a quality of wilderness that is rare to find on safari nowadays.

Lugenda Wilderness Camp offers both game drives and walks, accompanied by a qualified guide. Commonly sighted game include elephant, buffalo, zebra, lion and leopard. The area is also home to over 370 bird species including abundant raptors, the rare Pel's fishing owl and Angola pitta.

The camp is sheltered by miombo forest. The main building consists of a reading lounge area, bar and dining area, and is a great place to relax and enjoy the views across the Lugenda River towards the Ngalongue Mountains. After a day out, you can cool down in the pool which is virtually on the banks of the river.

Lugenda Wilderness Camp is set along the banks of the Lugenda River in the greater Niassa National Reserve, northern Mozambique.

Despite being tucked away in such a remote corner of the world, food is fresh and plentiful. You are woken in the morning with piping-hot coffee or tea and fresh muffins, leisurely breakfasts, lunches and high teas are served on the cool verandas, while dinner is enjoyed around the fire in the boma. Private dinners can also be arranged.

Lugenda Wilderness Camp also has a collection of fine wines to complement you meals.

Lugenda Wilderness Camp has eight east-African style tents, positioned under wild fig trees, which attract elephant in the early morning and late afternoon.

Each beautifully appointed tent has en-suite bathroom facilities, with both a shower and deep Victorian bath. The tents also have their own private decks and, being only 40m away from the river, have excellent views.
