Quirimbas Archipelago » Introduction

It's not often the world gets a new destination to explore, but the relatively unknown Quirimbas Archipelago (also referred to as the Querimbas) is rapidly becoming Mozambique's hottest destination. Previously inaccessible, this has now changed and this magical world of crystal clear seas, dotted with secluded coral islands is now opening up.

The archipelago is made up of 27 coral islands strung along Mozambique's northern coast, from Pemba to the Tanzanian border. Many are uninhabited, and accommodation in the Quirimbas is limited to only a handful of lodges and resorts, so it's easy to find an empty stretch of beach or virgin reef all to yourself.

Seclusion, a laidback rhythm of life, a rich marine world and crystal clear water; these are a few of the draw cards of these exceptionally beautiful tropical islands.

Coconut palms, incredible coral reefs and powder-white beaches line the Quirimbas Islands. Add to this bucketfuls of luxury and a fantastic range of activities, and you're looking at the perfect off-the-beaten track island escape.

Eleven of the southernmost islands are included in the Quirimba National Park, established to help protect the wide range of marine life that includes whale sharks, humpback whales, dolphins and dugongs.

Ibo Island is probably the most visited of the islands due to its unique blend of culture and architecture, and fascinating history.

In terms of accommodation, you won't go wrong in finding yourself a secluded little spot to live out your Robinson Crusoe fantasies in the archipelago. Whether you're on honeymoon, wanting a bit of solitude, an avid diver or part of a group of friends or a family group that wants fun in the sun, there's accommodation available that will perfectly suit your needs.
