Although little explored, the protected waters around the Quirimbas Archipelago already have a well-earned reputation for thrilling big game fishing.
Yellowfin tuna, dorado and kingfish can be caught year- round, peak sailfish season runs from July to December and, while these waters are not currently known for Marlin, they have been caught during the local winter.
State-of-the-art fishing boats, skippered by professional guides, zoom guests out to the best fishing spots. Vertical drop-offs mean that you don't have to travel far for trophy-sized catches.
As most of the southern islands fall within Quirimba National Park, lodges on these islands operate on a strict catch-and-release policy.
Still, whether you're an experienced fisherman or trying your hand for the first time, you're sure to come back with incredible stories and photos to prove them.
For the ultimate fishing excursion we'd recommend the world-renowned St. Lazarus banks. Both Matemo Island and Medjumbe Private Island, offer luxury live-aboard boat trips to this fishing hotspot, known for the abundance and size of billfish and tuna.
