The extensive Quirimbas Archipelago consists of 27 islands stretching some 250km along Mozambique's northern coastline.
Many of the islands are uninhabited, and all are surrounded by calm tropical waters ideal for swimming, snorkeling and kayaking.
The area is still relatively unexplored, although this is slowly starting to change as the Quirimbas grows in popularity as a destination.
The Quirimbas' islands are composed of fossil coral rock and have lush vegetation, blindingly white beaches and pristine mangrove estuaries.
The southernmost islands form part of the Quirimba National Park, which was established in 2002 to protect what is one of the most important and diverse marine regions in the world.
