Ibo Island has beautiful old buildings, and a long, dark history dating from well before the arrival of the Portuguese. Once a fashionable town, many of the 18th and 19th century Portuguese-built homes have been abandoned and are now crumbling beyond repair.
Travel to Ibo Island and take a tour of this fantastically run-down place with its silversmiths and historic forts; meet some of the local people and learn a bit more about their ancient culture.
A 45-minute flight from mainland Pemba is Medjumbe Private Island. This tiny teardrop of an island is so remote, it even has its own time zone - an hour ahead of the rest of the Quirimbas.
The pace of life is wonderfully laid-back on exclusive little Medjumbe and most settle into the swing of things very easily; swaying in the hammock of their palm-thatched beach chalet.
This is probably the closest you'll come to having your own tropical island with just you, the staff and a few other guests. Bliss!
The Quirimbas Archipelago is said to have some of the most pristine and unexplored reefs in the Indian Ocean.
Scuba diving in the Quirimbas is a real treat with over 32 diveable islands, an amazing variety of hard and soft coral, dizzying displays of tropical fish, sea turtles, sharks, humpback whales and the occasional dugong.
Whether you're a novice or experienced diver, take to the warm crystal waters and spend some time on your Quirimbas travels exploring the thriving, colourful community below the waves.
It's little secret that the seafood in Mozambique is fantastic! From succulent crayfish and piles of tiger prawns, to delicious crab curries served on fragrant coconut rice and complimented by top quality wines.
There's also no shortage of phenomenal settings on the Quirimbas Islands in which to share a meal, while on Mozambique's mainland you can tuck into award-winning cuisine at Londo Lodge.
Round off your day with a delicious dinner of seafood freshly caught that morning, as the sun slowly sinks below the horizon, and a dhow glides silently by - it's sure to be a top Quirimbas travel experience.
It would be foolish to travel to the Quirimbas Archipelago and not take a day trip or a sunset cruise on a traditional sailing dhow. These magnificent teak vessels with their fin-shaped sails are still built to the same design as the boats that journeyed from Arabia a thousand years ago.
While sailing past coconut-palm coastlines, you stand a good chance of spotting dolphins or turtles in the clear tropical water below you.
