This map shows the extensive Quirimbas Archipelago, which stretches some 250km along the northern coastline of Mozambique from the historic port town of Pemba (the capital of the Cabo Delgado province), to the Rovuma River - Mozambique's natural border with Tanzania.
Some 27 tropical islands make up the Quirimbas, with 11 of the southernmost islands falling within the Quirimba National Park; a vast protected area including coastal forests, abundant marine life and some of the richest coral reefs in the world.
As you can see from this map of the archipelago, Pemba is the gateway Quirimbas with light aircraft of helicopter flights directly to any of the 5 islands offering luxurious accommodation.
Ibo is the best known of the islands, with opulent architecture and a dark and fascinating history of ivory and slaves. A short boat ride away lies Matemo Island, while the northernmost island of Vamizi also has direct flights from Dar es Salaam.
You can use our map of the Quirimbas Archipelago to help plan your tropical getaway. Click on specific islands to navigate to more detailed content and accommodation listings in our Quirimbas travel guide.
