An excellent way to experience the amazing sand dune sea of the Namib and Sossusvlei region. This tour departs around lunchtime on Fridays and Tuesdays from Windhoek and returns early afternoons on Sundays and Thursdays. Accommodation is in permanent adobe style tents with en-suite facilities and incredible views across the mountains and desert.
- Day 1: Namib-Naukluft Park
- Itinerary
Leaving Windhoek behind you drive through the rugged Khomas Hochland mountain range, descending to the desert floor via the Gamsberg Pass. Gamsberg is an imposing flat-topped mountain and one of the highest points in Namibia, which also provides a dramatic backdrop for a roadside lunch.
You arrive mid-afternoon at your tented camp set amongst the indigenous wild ebony trees, and enjoy a short walk through the dry river bed and mountains. Keep a sharp lookout for springbok, zebra, warthog and kudu.
- Day 2: Sossusvlei
- Itinerary
You depart before dawn to arrive at Sossusvlei for sunrise, so you can appreciate the beauty of this incredible place in early morning light and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the region.
There is some time to explore this unique area on foot before heading into Dead Vlei with its large expanse of bleached, cracked clay and skeletal camel thorn trees scattered around, contrasting with a backdrop of huge dunes with their ever-changing colours.
Before you leave this area you will stop at the famous Dune 45 and climb it if you wish. Alternatively, you can just wander around the base. Returning to Sesriem, you visit Sesriem Canyon on foot before arriving back at your tented camp in the late afternoon to watch the sunset over the desert.
- Day 3: Windhoek
- Itinerary
After a leisurely breakfast, you return to Windhoek via Bullsport and Rehoboth, arriving mid-afternoon, after which you will be dropped off at your accommodation.
