When it comes to animals, Namibia's just about got it all. From rodents and reptiles to rhinos, there is more to the desert than meets the eye.
Namibia's deserts are full of wildlife you would not expect to encounter in such a forbidding environment. Elephant, rhino, horses and various antelope species have adapted to this arid environment.
In addition to those animals you would normally see on safari, there are many smaller animals that burrow deep into the sand to escape the scorching daytime temperatures. The surface of the desert, which looks lifeless during the day, comes alive at night.
For the more conventional game viewer, head for the grasslands of the Waterberg Plateau Park and the densely vegetated reserves of the Caprivi Region. The flagship park is of course the Etosha National Park which is the best place to see Namibia's animals.
The open grasslands are home to thousands of animals, including large populations of elephant, zebra, giraffe and many antelope species as well as the major African predators: lion, cheetah, leopard, spotted hyena and wild dog.
