Namibia may have only achieved independence in 1990 but that doesn't mean the country lacks a rich and fascinating cultural and historical heritage. Some of the world's oldest rock art is found in the north - the Brandberg, Twyfelfontein and Erongo areas. The Himba tribe of the far north Kunene Region still proudly cling to their traditional ways and San bushmen still hunt in the Kalahari.

We Recommend:

Our16-day luxury Rock Art Safari takes in important cultural sites, game reserves and stunning mountain scenery in both South Africa and Namibia as well as focusing squarely on the amazing Rock Art of the region.

Namibia's more recent history is reflected in the colonial German architecture of Swakopmund and the forgotten ghost towns of Kolmanskop.

A keen student of history would be wise to do a little reading up on Namibia's history as the consequences of colonialisation and the freedom struggle are still very much evident today.
