As a sparsely populated country, there are frequently great distances between Namibia's towns and cities. Many of Namibia's towns are fairly small, with the exception of a few larger towns along the southern coast. A large percentage of Namibia's population still live rurally and traditionally.

Namibia's capital city, Windhoek, is located on the rolling plains of the inland plateau and is a mixture of Namibia's German colonial history and tribal traditionalism. As many Namibia guide books tell you, it is one of the nicer African capitals with some great markets and an interesting café culture - and we'd agree. It's well worth a stopover.

A stop in any of the smaller Namibian towns will give you some insight into the unique lifestyle of "urbanized" Namibians.

Note that although there are obviously hotels and lodges in the main urban areas such as Windhoek and Swakopmund, most Namibia accommodation is located in wilderness areas, national parks or private concessions. This does not, however, mean that you will be sacrificing standards: our Namibia accommodation choices will wow you with their level of luxury and comfort.
