The small town of Arandis lies on the main tar road from Windhoek to Swakopmund in an arid area of sea fogs but little rainfall. It was here at the Rossing Uranium Mines in Oranjemund and Arandis, that the Rossing Mineworkers Union was formed by April 1986.
This union has since became the Mineworkers Union of Namibia. Today the mines are still in operation and are a major industry in this area.
