Daan Viljoen Game Reserve

25km west of Windhoek, the Daan Viljoen Game Reserve is an extremely popular weekend getaway from the capital. Visit for a day (get a permit from the park office) or stay overnight in a thatched bungalow or camp amongst the trees in designated areas.

The rolling hills of this park contain various species of antelopes, plenty of birds and very naughty baboons. If you are not careful the cheeky baboons will pinch your lunch before you even get to eat it, so do not leave things lying around or your car doors open while you are not around.

There are some marked walks through the reserve, up to the top of hills for fabulous views, then down along rocky dry riverbeds. The resort has a licensed restaurant, kiosk, swimming pool but no shop or filling station.
