About 70km north of Swakopmund is the small town of Hentiesbaai. There is a small resident community but most of the houses are holiday homes, with many anglers basing themselves here.

The weather is like Swakopmund, hot and breezy with sudden sea mists and quite cool winters. This whole coastline from Swakopmund up to the deserted Skeleton Coast is just one long stretch of sand, littered with ship wrecks and sad stories.

There are municipal camp sites every so often, but you would not really notice them without the signs as they consist of nothing more than a few white posts in the ground to delineate the camping areas, and a basic convenience block.

No trees can grow in this climate so these sites appear quite desolate and unappealing. However, they are well frequented during the holiday season.
