This Namibian overlanding tour includes all the most talked about scenic, wildlife and heritage sites in the country. The journey combines the towering sand dunes of Sossusvlei with the oldest desert in the world before continuing through this remarkable country into the north where highlights include game viewing in the renowned Etosha National Park. Enough time is allocated for you to take in Africa's land of contrasts, whilst also allowing you the opportunity to enjoy an exciting range of adrenaline pumping activities.
- Day 1: Sesriem
- Itinerary
You depart from the Chameleon Guesthouse and Backpackers in Windhoek at 08h30. Following a drive through the rugged Khomas Hochland mountain range you descend to the desert floor via the Gamsberg Pass, an imposing flat topped mountain and one of the highest points in Namibia, which provides a dramatic back drop for your roadside lunch. After a short stop at Solitaire, you arrive at camp mid-afternoon and enjoy a late afternoon walk across the desert to Elim's Dune on the edge of the famous sand dune sea with views across to the nearby mountains. You return to camp just after sunset to enjoy dinner prepared by your guide. Overnight camping.
- Day 2: Sesriem
- Itinerary
You leave camp before dawn to drive to Sossusvlei where you watch the sunrise over this spectacular and unique area (dependent on opening time of inner park gate). You then walk to Dead Vlei, an expanse of bleached, cracked clay with skeletal camel thorn trees scattered around that contrasts strongly with the backdrop of huge orange-red dunes, making for superb photographic opportunities. You enjoy a mid-morning brunch after exploring this dramatic and desolate landscape before returning to camp for a swim. In the afternoon you explore the nearby Sesriem Canyon on foot followed by another spectacular sunset in this colourful desert. You have dinner, prepared by the guide, and camp under the bright stars of the southern hemisphere.
- Day 3: Swakopmund
- Itinerary
You depart from the camp in the early morning, stopping at the one horse town of Solitaire before continuing through the desert with its endless views across the pastel-coloured gravel plains to the port town of Walvis Bay. You visit the lagoon, which is a protected RAMSAR wetland site, where it is possible to see many species of birds including greater and lesser flamingos, pelicans, avocets, plovers and the endemic Damara Tern before a short stop at the salt farm. You continue onto the quaint, historical town of Swakopmund, where your guide will assist those wishing to book optional adventure activities such as sand boarding, quad biking, scenic flights, parachuting, dolphin cruises to name but a few. Overnight in comfortable en suite twin/double rooms, in a guest house located close to the town centre. Laundry facilities are available here. This evening's meal is a group dinner in a restaurant at your own expense.
- Day 4: Spitzkoppe
- Itinerary
This morning you have free time to visit the museum and aquarium, explore the town, or partake in optional activities such as sand boarding and quad biking. Departure is after lunch, you drive along a section of the Skeleton Coast before turning inland for Spitzkoppe, a huge inselberg towering above the dry desert plains; you arrive in the late afternoon to set up camp. You have the opportunity to explore the area and appreciate the wonderful rock formations that have been created by erosion over thousands of years. The evening is spent under a million stars with dinner prepared by the guide and camp assistant.

- Day 5: Hobatere
- Itinerary
This morning you enjoy a walk to Bushman's Paradise, viewing the ancient bushman paintings and vistas of the vast surrounding desert, alternatively, you may simply wander around the desert floor. From here the drive takes you through some beautiful and dramatic landscapes, arriving at camp in the late afternoon. Hobatere borders western Etosha and the camp is set in the bush amongst boulders and trees; game, including lion, may wander around freely and there are no fences to separate the camp from concession land. - Day 6: Hobatere
- Itinerary
Today you can relax at the camp, enjoy a walk in the surrounding land or watch the game come to drink at the waterhole, from the nearby hide. Alternatively, you may opt to join a day trip through to Opuwo and visit the local Himba tribes. These remarkable, proud people live in the Kunene region; formally cattle/goat herders, some still live a traditional lifestyle in this harsh environment. You will be accompanied by a local guide who will translate all your questions, giving you a chance to find how they survive in today's modern world learn about their fascinating culture. You return to camp in the late afternoon, where you can sit at the waterhole watching the game come to quench their thirst. You overnight here, with dinner prepared by the guide.
- Day 7: Okaukuejo, Etosha National Park
- Itinerary
You pick up fresh supplies at Outjo and then enjoy a game drive to the park gate for lunch. After lunch you continue your game drive through to camp and, after setting up your tents, you take a late afternoon game drive visiting many waterholes and looking for elephant, lion, rhino, kudu, giraffe, springbok, zebra, to name but a few of the animals found here. You also have the opportunity to enjoy nocturnal game viewing at the floodlit waterhole.

- Day 8: Namutoni/ Halali, Etosha National Park
- Itinerary
Depart camp at sunrise for a full morning's game drive, travelling across the park and visiting various waterholes along the way. You spend the hottest part of the day at Halali camp where you have lunch and enjoy a swim or an afternoon snooze. Take a late afternoon game drive to Namutoni via the famous Etosha Pan. Once again you can round off your day with nocturnal game viewing at the floodlit waterhole.

- Day 9: Waterberg Plateau
- Itinerary
Start your day with a sunrise game drive, then head back to camp for breakfast. You have a short stop at Lake Guinas before proceeding to Otjiwarongo for fresh supplies. In the late afternoon you arrive at an exclusive camp at the eastern end of the Waterberg Plateau. At sunset the rock face of the plateau behind your camp comes alive with colour, due to the various lichen which grow there. Your guide will lead you to the hide after dinner to see game coming to drink.
- Day 10: Windhoek
- Itinerary
Your guide will take you on a short hike through the ravine at the base of the plateau. After brunch you return to Windhoek via the Okahandja Craft Markets for those last minute gifts. You arrive at the guesthouse in Windhoek where you can enjoy an after safari drink and share your memories of your safari, which has now come to an end.
