Kaokoland is famous for its beauty. The landscapes here have a strange quality that is hard to find elsewhere, the flora is spectacular with lots of desert succulents, seemingly dead bushes and huge Baobab trees studding the horizon, but most of all Kaokoland is famous for its beautiful people, the Himba.
The capital of the area is a small town called Opuwo, the last main centre of the north west before the Angolan border. The name Opuwo translates from the local Herero language into English as "the end". The Himba people are traditionally nomadic and the various tribes slowly began drifting across the Kunene into Namibia around the beginning of the last century.
