Rundu is not a town many tourists stop to visit, although in season you should buy some ripe paw paws, which are absolutely delicious, and stop at roadside stalls to see the wood carvings on offer. Rundu lies on the lush green banks of the broad Okavango River which forms the border with Angola.
It is not advisable to swim in the river as it is infested with crocodiles, and bilharzia can be contracted even if paddling in the shallows.
