Today your overland tour begins by heading north from Cape Town to the Cederberg mountain range.

These sandstone and shale mountains are famous for their spectacular rock formations. On this first afternoon you'll spend some time getting to know your fellow travelers and learning about tour life.

Travel north through Namaqualand towards the Orange River. Namaqualand is big sky country - a vast semi-arid region which comes alive in spring when millions of colourful wild flowers cover the countryside. This is a long yet scenic drive, but you'll have the opportunity to stretch your legs and do some shopping in the town of Springbok.

Set up camp on the banks of the Orange River and spend your evening chatting around the campfire.

In the morning you'll have the opportunity to explore the Orange River on an exciting canoe trip. The Orange River, also called the Gariep in the Nama region, flows through some of the richest succulent regions in the world.

Choose between a relaxing morning on the riverbank or a half-day canoe adventure. After lunch you'll travel north to the Ai-Ais hot springs.

After an early breakfast, your journey continues to the mighty Fish River Canyon, the 2nd largest canyon in the world and an area of impressive natural beauty.

Enjoy some spectacular views before traveling inland to the Kalahari area in Namibia.

En route you will visit the Kokerboom 'quiver tree' Forest, which consists of hundreds of giant aloe trees.

This morning you have a chance to spend some time with the local !Kung people - traditionally hunter-gatherers who have a remarkable knowledge of the semi-arid Kalahari region.

This activity is a local community project and all fees are payable directly to the community. Later you'll head west towards the majestic red dunes of Sossusvlei, where you'll enter the Namib region - one of the oldest and most unique deserts in the world.

Take advantage of the cooler temperatures by leaving at dawn and driving into the Namib Naukluft National Park, where you'll hike up famous Dune 45 to gain a different perspective of the desert.

Later you'll have the option of hiking with fellow group members into Sossusvlei, a beautiful remote region consisting of huge red sand dunes and home to the eerie Deadvlei, a dry salt-encrusted lake.

Enjoy a dramatic drive through the Namib Desert to Walvis Bay, known for its large flocks of pink flamingos. On the way you'll stop at Kuiseb Pass to view its scenic geology, and drive through the Guab Pass, where you'll cross the Tropic of Capricorn.

Then it's on to Swakopmund, where you'll enjoy some adrenalin inducing activities, such as sand-boarding, quad-biking, and maybe even a hot-air balloon ride over the dunes.

Enjoy a night out at one of the restaurants (own expense), followed by dancing in one of the local nightclubs for the adventurous.

Head inland today and drive north towards Outjo where you'll meet some of the local community.

The Himba tribe are semi-nomadic pastoralists who are easily recognisable by their dress, hair and jewellery; the women particularly are very striking.

An early rise sees you on your way to Etosha National Park, home to over 340 bird, 110 reptile and 100 mammal species, including close to 3000 elephants.

Spend your days visiting waterholes on game drives and lazing at camp. Remember to be on the lookout for some excellent photographic opportunities.

Enjoy your evening meal around the fire, before retiring to the floodlit camp waterholes - often a setting for a dramatic nocturnal ambush.

After an early morning drive you'll set off for Windhoek, the capital of Namibia, known for its architectural blend of innovative modern design and old German colonialism.

On the way you'll stop at a local craft market for some shopping where you can pick up some authentic curios.

Your tour ends today but you may arrange a dinner out with your group to say final goodbyes. An evening at Joe's Beer House (own expense) gives you the chance to try many different types of venison and other local foods.
