Africa is one of the world's leading adventure destinations and overland tours offer some exhilarating adrenalin-pumping activities

At Victoria Falls, from either Zambia or Zimbabwe, experience some of the world's best white water rafting in the rapids of the Zambezi River, fly in a microlight, helicopter or impossibly small plane over The Smoke that Thunders, or leap into the Batoka Gorge on a bungee jump.

In Namibia there are a host of adventures to choose from: slither down towering sand dunes on a sand board, explore the desert terrain by quad bike, or jump out of a plane on a skydive.

In Botswana, fly over the Okavango Delta, watch huge elephant herds from a boat on the Chobe River, track wild dog on foot or simply float through the Delta in a mokoro.

In Kenya, let soft air currents carry you over the teeming Masai Mara savannah in a hot air balloon, go wreck diving or explore the long coral reef that stretches along Kenya's 900km coastline.

In South Africa, get to grips with great white sharks on a shark-cage excursion, be bold and do the world's highest bungee jump on the Garden Route, or embark on a hiking trip into the Drakensberg.

Malawi and Mozambique offer incredible diving and snorkelling opportunities, while the Spice Island of Zanzibar, just off the coast of Tanzania, is known for dhow sailing, spice tours and tropical scuba diving

A wide variety of adventures await you on your overland Africa trip: as terrain and climate differ from country to country, so do the adventure activities.

An activity such as gorilla trekking is confined to Uganda and Rwanda, yet bungee jumping is an adrenaline rush you can experience in just about any country that has a treacherously high gorge and a bit of elastic.

All activities are optional and are selected for their value for money, enjoyment factor and feedback from previous overland clients.

Optional activities are not included in the tour price for three simple reasons:

• Not everyone can afford to do them all - some activities are expensive.
• Not everyone wants to do them all. (No point in throwing yourself out of a plane or off a bridge if you can't bear heights!)
• We leave the running and safety of these specialised activities to the people who do them best. We take you there and then let the professionals take care of you - if throwing you off a bridge is their idea of care.
