Every May, this week-long luxury rail journey takes passengers 3 400km from the savannah of the highveld to the shores of the Atlantic Ocean at Swakopmund.

Highlights of this southern Africa luxury rail journey include: Kimberley and the Big Hole; the spectacular Fish River Canyon; the stark beauty of the Kalahari and Namib deserts; a visit to Windhoek - the capital of Namibia; and an overnight stay at a game lodge bordering Etosha Pan.

The Rovos journey's end is at Swakopmund, a perfectly preserved 19th century German Hansa town, picked up from the Baltic and set down in the desert of Africa. It's a remarkable place and a fitting end - or starting point - to this fascinating luxury rail journey of southern Africa .

Day 1: Set Off From Pretoria
- Itinerary
  In the late afternoon the world's best luxury train will depart from Rovos Rail Headquarters at Capital Park Station, Pretoria. This luxury rail journey will take you through some of the most historic and scenic areas of Southern Africa. A steam locomotive hauls the train in and out of Pretoria station, adding excitement and atmosphere to the trip.
  A 3-course dinner is served in the oak panelled dining car. Dress is formal and the evening recreates the romance of a bygone era.

Day 2: Explore Kimberley
- Itinerary
  This morning the Rovos luxury train arrives at Kimberley, the centre of one of the world's most famous diamond rushes. Here you leave the Rovos train for a morning excursion to visit the Big Hole Diamond Mine and experience the atmosphere of the 1870s. The Rovos luxury train departs Kimberley at 12h45 and continues its epic rail journey.

Day 3: Discover the Fish River Canyon
- Itinerary
  Today there is an off-board excursion to the spectacular Fish River Canyon, second only in size and splendour to the Grand Canyon. This is followed by lunch at Canyon Lodge before re-boarding Rovos and continuing on your luxury train adventure.

Day 4: City Tour of Windhoek
- Itinerary
  This morning you visit a Station Museum and enjoy a city tour of Windhoek, a lively and cosmopolitan city with a strong German flavour. Lunch today will be served at Okapuka Ranch, and is followed by an afternoon game drive. The Rovos luxury train will depart from Okapuka in the early evening.

Day 5: Game Drive in Etosha
- Itinerary
  On arrival at Tsumeb in the late morning you will be transferred to Mokuti Game Lodge in time for lunch. Mokuti Lodge is situated on the eastern edge of the game-rich Etosha National Park. You will then have some time to relax at the lodge and settle into your thatched chalet before being taken out on a game drive.

Day 6: More Game at Mokuti Lodge
- Itinerary
  An early morning wake up call and you will be taken out for an early morning game drive into the Etosha National Park before heading back to Mokuti Lodge for breakfast. Departure from Tsumeb by Rovos train will be at 13h00.

Day 7: Conclude in Swakopmund
- Itinerary
  Rovos Rail reaches its destination today. Swakopmund is a perfectly preserved 19th-Century German Hansa town set between the dunes of the Namib desert and the roaring Atlantic Ocean. It is an unforgettable end to a remarkable luxury rail journey.
