Rwanda is a small country and most of its attractions can be experienced in a matter of days. Nearly every visitor, of course, heads north-west to the Virunga Volcanoes and the incredible gorilla trekking offered there but a Rwanda tour isn't just about big primates.

After the hot, wet and uncomfortable mountain treks many people head for the white sand beaches of Lake Kivu in western Rwanda. The towns of Gisenyi and Kibuye offer a resort-like atmosphere and range of water sports.

For those who still feel like doing the wildlife thing, the south-west holds the primate-packed Nyungwe Forest National Park and fantastic birding opportunities.

Eastern Rwanda is home to the savannahs and swamps of the Akagera National Park.
