Rwandan markets offer a wide range of handicrafts, especially in Kigali. Rwandans are proud of their talent, which is not inconsiderable.

Women usually weave fabrics and men usually carve wood. The pieces created are often beautiful and usually very affordable, especially to tourists.

African clothing is often bright and patterned, usually very comfortable and quite unlike anything you'll see in the USA or Europe. The writer's favourite pair of trousers, for example, was made in Kenya.

You can traipse through a street market anywhere on the continent (Kigali is best for Rwanda) and check out the apparel on offer.
