East Province

The East Province is one of Rwanda's five new provinces. The province was created at the beginning of 2006 as part of a nationwide program that re-structured and decentralized the country's local government.

The East Province includes the former provinces of Kibungo and Umutara, as well as most of Kigali Rural, and a portion of Byumba.
