West Province » Cities and towns » Gisenyi

Set against Rwanda's Lake Kivu, Gisenyi is a waterfront town with great appeal. The high altitude here (1,500m above sea level) welcomes a cool climate in contrast to its heated African appearance.

The town resembles a forgotten tropical beach resort with its endearing mismatch of architectural styles, sandy red shore, and lakeside extremely rich in birdlife.

Visitors can easily spend a few days here. The affordable accommodation, beach, bustling market, and quaint suburbs, coloured with trees and colonial buildings, make for a truly relaxing experience.

Gisenyi is also conveniently located; it is only 62 km to Ruhengeri on a relatively straight road.
