Located roughly 100km southeast of Kigali, the best thing going for the town of Kibungo is its proximity to other attractions. Kibungo is 60km from the Rusumo Falls which border Tanzania, and the Akagera National Park is also nearby. The region still lives in the consuming shadow of the genocide, and scarce rain over the last while has badly affected the area. Much still needs to be done in this town to uplift its people and environment.
Despite this, people remain helpful and friendly. A good place to stay is the Umbrella Pine Guesthouse where the staff make up for the lack of resources in effort - a symptom of the areas prevailing climate.
