Primates and Birds in Nyungwe

Nyungwe, the largest montane forest in Central Africa, is home to 13 species of primate including chimpanzee and large groups of Rwenzori colobus. You can spend your days in these forested hillsides tracking primates, enjoying nature walks, and marvelling at the beautiful orchids and butterflies.

Day 1: Nyungwe Forest National Park
- Itinerary
  After a safari briefing, you start for Nyungwe Forest National Park. En route you visit the old palace in Nyanza, and drive past green hills covered with tea plantations and the vast Nyungwe Forest.
  You spend your first night at ORTPN Gisakura Resthouse, on the western edge of the Nyungwe forest.

Day 2: Nyungwe Forest National Park
- Itinerary
  Choose between going on an escorted walk in search of the large groups of colobus monkeys and birds, including the Rwenzori Turaco, or going chimp tracking. You enjoy a picnic lunch in the forest and return during the late afternoon.
  Overnight at ORTPN Resthouse.

Day 3: Nyungwe Forest National Park
- Itinerary
  Today you can choose between going on a guided nature walk in the forest or chimp tracking. The Nyungwe Forest is also home to around 300 bird species.
  Overnight at ORTPN Resthouse.

Day 4: End of Tour
- Itinerary
  Today you return to Kigali. En route, you visit the cultural museum in Butare. In Kigali you transfer to the airport for your onward flight and the end of your tour.
