Offering something for everyone, Volcanoes Virungas Lodge is set on the crown of a high hill overlooking the 5 Virunga Volcanoes and has almost 360 degree views of the surrounding area.

A patchwork of farmlands and the beautiful volcanic Lake Ruhondo and Lake Bulera lie below, ringed by the volcanoes and far hills.

Volcanoes Virungas Lodge is built in the local style from wood and stone, with clay-tiled roofs, and has a rustic and tranquil atmosphere. In the evenings, you can relax around a log fire and tell stories about the day's adventures in the jungle, tracking gorillas or golden monkeys.

The lodge has been built to very environmentally friendly standards and the electricity is all solar powered. There is no running water - water is supplied to your room in tanks and your hot shower is delivered on demand. There are also no flush toilets. Long drop style eco-toilets are used instead.

Activities to enjoy at Volcanoes Virungas Lodge include tribal dancing (free, at the lodge), gorilla tracking, Golden Monkey tracking, visit to Diane Fossey's grave and hikes to the top of the volcanoes.

Virungas Volcanoes Lodge is just outside the town of Ruhengeri and about 45 minutes' drive from the Volcanoes National Park headquarters, Rwanda.

Three meals are served each day in the dining room, and morning tea or coffee is brought to your room with your wake-up call.

Each evening you will set a time for breakfast and order it.

Depending on your activities, the lodge will make you a packed lunch or prepare lunch for you when you return.

A 3-course dinner is served each evening. Food is healthy, wholesome and plentiful, essential when you return tired and hungry from a hard day's tracking!

Accommodation at Volcanoes Virungas Lodge is in 8 individual chalets, all with either volcano or lake views and their own gardens and verandas from which to appreciate them.

The chalets are very private and have been given the names of different lakes in the area. The bedrooms are very large, with either king-size or twin beds, which have been made in the local style. Local fabrics and grass mats are used.

The bathrooms are separated from the bedrooms by a small corridor to enable warm water to be delivered without disturbing you. They are bright and sunny and each has an eco-sun long-drop toilet, a bucket shower and a hand basin supplied with water from an urn.
