Because of Seychelles' long history in marine conservation, the array and abundance of sealife is incredible. There are more than 1,000 recorded species of fish in the Seychelles.

Snorkelling and diving in the marine reserves around the archipelago you should encounter such colourful varieties as clownfish, angelfish, pufferfish, parrotfish and moray eels.

There are two species of marine turtles found in the Seychelles, the Hawksbill and the Green Turtle. The Hawksbill Turtle is critically endangered and the Green Turtle is an endangered species, but both species can be spotted swimming in the waters of the Seychelles or laying their eggs in the soft sand, if you are very lucky.

Nesting can happen throughout the year, although Hawksbill Turtles tend to favour the months October to February. If you are lucky enough to witness this, be sure not to get in the way and to stay out of the turtles line of vision.

Whale sharks are the largest fish in the world. These gentle giants can be seen around the Seychelles between August to March. They are docile plankton-feeders that can grow up to 18 metres long and weigh in excess of 25 tonnes!
