With an average temperature of 29°C the Seychelles climate is tropical and beach-perfect. It is hot and humid for most of the year but the heat is usually moderated by cooler sea breezes. The hottest months are December to April with tropical rains falling mainly in January and February.
When deciding when to visit Seychelles, bear in mind that the seasons in the Seychelles are subject to the wind direction of the monsoons. From November to April, the north-west monsoon brings hot and humid weather. For the remainder of the year, the south-east monsoon tends to bring dryer air, strong winds and big swells at sea.
The islands lie outside the hurricane belt, and so are unaffected by these severe and ill-tempered tropical cyclones.
Travellers to the Seychelles may find that at certain times of year some beaches are affected by washed-up seaweed. A seasonal occurrence, with tropical winds also playing a part, the only possible adverse effects of this harmless algae are that on your photographs and that it could deter your swimming experience slightly. The seaweeds' location might therefore affect the area you would prefer to stay in.
May to September welcomes cooler, drier winds and more lively seas to south-west Mahé, resulting in seaweed being washed up on the beaches of Praslin's south coast.
October to April receives calm and warm north-west trade winds which result in Praslin's Cote d'Or beaches and coastal stretches being affected. Waves and currents are also stronger on Mahe's north-west coast, such as Beau Vallon, resulting in seaweed being deposited on the beaches but smaller coves are more protected.
Keep in mind however that the distances on these islands are short so a seaweed-free, postcard-perfect beach is never very far away.
