Desroches is a tiny, low lying island forming part of the outer islands of the Seychelles. The island is about 230km southwest (a 40 minute flight) of the main Seychelles' Island of Mahé.
The 6 km long island is lined with fine beach sand and has a pristine sheltered lagoon. Blanketed in coconut palms and tall hardwood trees, Desroches exemplifies the get-away-from-it-all island.
Only 50 residents inhabit the island, most of which are contract workers engaged in agriculture. They live in a settlement in the middle of the north-western shore. In the south of the Island, under the palms of an old coconut plantation is a small luxury hotel complete with its own airstrip.
Diving at Desroches is excellent, and best between November and April. The island is famous among divers for the Desroches Drop. The drop occurs off the edge of a coral plateau and is pot marked with small, underwater valleys and deep caves.
There is a dive centre on the island offering courses for beginners. Big game fishing is also magnificent here, and a boat can be chartered for game fishing trips or even just for visits to nearby islands.
