Safari and beach holidays offer the best of both worlds: after early morning game drives tracking lion or elephant in the soft dawn light, there really is nothing better than a lazy lie-in overlooking a remote stretch of sand.
From cosmopolitan Cape Town, up along the small coastal towns dotting the Garden Route, to the footprint-free sand of northern KwaZulu Natal - South Africa has a magnificent coastline with more than enough beaches to lay down your towel and soak up the sun.
If you'd like to do a self-drive holiday, the malaria-free Eastern Cape Reserves or world-renowned Phinda are great choices, as you can easily watch the sun rise in the African bush and set over the ocean, with a relatively short drive in between.
However, if you'd prefer something more tropical, we'd recommend flying across the sun-drenched islands of Mozambique, Mauritius or the Seychelles - where warm sea, coral reefs, luxurious accommodation and decadent spa treatments are all a part of island life.
Below are a few of our favourite safari and beach holidays. If you don't see exactly what you're looking for, contact one of our Africa Safari Experts, and they'll put together the perfect combo. All that's left for you to do is remember to pack your safari hat and sunblock!

Reviews of lodges in our Affordable Cape Town, Kruger & Mozambique holiday -
"We enjoyed our guest house (Welgelegen), even though we still cannot say the name! We liked that it was in walking distance to downtown. If you put people there again (which I'm sure you will), you should tell them to check out Mama Africa." - Ryan Martini, Go2Africa Traveller (June 2009)
"Simbavati River Lodge well, what can we say. It was simply perfect. The accommodation, the food, the atmosphere, the limited number of guests - all the amenities were exceptional. Charlie and Elmarie, the ranger and the tracker, and all the staff were attentive and friendly and helpful." - Donna Nietzel, Go2Africa Traveller (March 2010)
"We had some fantastic snorkelling at Matemo Island and the highlight was our wedding anniversary where we were whisked off to Rolas Island for a romantic picnic lunch with champagne under a gazebo, followed by snorkelling around the bomas." - Carey Wallin, Go2Africa Traveller (Sep 2009)
Reviews of lodges in our KwaZulu Natal North Coast Adventure -
"Lalaria felt like home from home (much better than a hotel) with an excellent location - 5 minutes walk to the beach. Errol and Caryl were such wonderful hosts, they were so welcoming. We would certainly go back there and spend a few more days." - Susan Neill, Go2Africa Traveller (Nov 2009)
"As for Makakatana, really, it was absolutely perfect. The lodge was beautiful, everyone so attentive, and I was the only one at the lodge that weekend, so everything was done just for me. I felt completely spoiled! " - Leonora Rodriguez, Go2Africa Traveller (Sep 2009)
"I have to thank you also for recommending Rocktail, you were absolutely right to encourage us with that one. It was a bit of a pain to get to (it took us 5 hours) but definitely worth it. In our experience, places that are hard work to get to are always worth the effort!" - Joanna Russell, Go2Africa Traveller (March 2010)
"I have had one of the most exciting vacations of my life! We really had a good time. Phinda Mountain Lodge was over the top: the game was excellent, we saw all of the Big 5 (except the leopard) and the personnel were amazing." - Paulo Abreu, Go2Africa Traveller (April 2010)
