This interactive tour gives you the chance to learn more about South African cultures and customs. You spend your morning visiting various private homes and shops, meeting and chatting to locals in Kayamandi, a vibrant township in the Cape Winelands. The guide then takes you to the community centre where a local cook invites you to participate in preparing a typical African meal.

- Itinerary
In the morning you are collected from Cape Town's V&A Waterfront and driven to Kayamandi, which lies just outside Stellenbosch.
The tour starts with a 1.5 - 2 hour guided walk; focussing on food, food-related traditions and general cultural aspects of everyday life in the townships. Wherever possible your local guide will invite you into private homes and kitchens, giving you behind-the-scenes insight into African cuisine.
On the way to the community centre, you'll stop at local greengrocers and spaza shops (informal stores) to buy ingredients for lunch. Then Loyiso, the professional cook, will invite you all to join in with a hands-on cooking workshop and demonstration.
When the meal is ready, you all sit down together to sample traditional food and enjoy a good chat over lunch.
