Entry requirements

This is a guide only - for guaranteed information please inquire with your nearest South African Embassy or consulate, or employ the services of your local visa shop.

All visitors to South Africa must carry a passport valid for at least 30 days after their date of departure from the country. Travellers requiring a visa must ensure their passport has at least one blank facing page.

You may also need to prove that you have enough money to cover your stay.

If you plan to leave and re-enter South Africa you'll need a multiple-entry visa to get back into South Africa.

Visa extensions

Applications to extend the term of a visa must be made at the famously inefficient Department of Home Affairs. There are offices in the major towns. The addresses for the Cape Town and Johannesburg branches are:

Cape Town:

56 Barrack Street

Phone: +27 21 462 4970

Johannesburg:

Corner of Plein and Harrison Streets

Phone: +27 11 836 3228

Go2Africa cannot be held responsible if visa applications are denied for any reason. We also cannot be held responsible for any changes in costs, requirements, delays, or loss of passports caused by the issuing authorities.

Other important documents you may need are:

• an international driver's license • inoculation certificates (e.g. yellow fever) • airline, car, hotel, hotel vouchers
