Earlier in this century, the bontebok was the rarest antelope on earth. It is a stunning, chocolate-brown and white antelope with heart-shaped horns and a wide white strip down its long face.
The bontebok population is now doing well and can be seen, along with other animals, in the beautiful Bontebok National Park. Green-ridged mountains form a stunning backdrop to the reserve, and the peaceful Breede ('wide') River acts as its southern boundary.
