The Mother City is an excellent base from which to explore the rest of the country. Be it a day trip, a week or longer Cape Town will always welcome you back.
Cape Town International Airport links to all major airports and there are train and bus options for getting around. Hiring a car though offers you the freedom to get yourself lost somewhere; you never know what you'll find.
The Garden Route is all blue skies, long white beaches, lush forests and plenty of adventure. Take time to explore as each stop offers something different, from Knysna and Plettenberg Bay's hustle and bustle, to the chilled vibe of Wilderness and Sedgefield and good, old-fashioned George.
This is a part of the world where nature rules but at least you get to play in it, whether by playing the area's top golf courses, going paragliding, bungee jumping, dolphin watching or zipping along the tree tops.
The area is famous for an array of world class golf courses and accommodation is plentiful with hotels, B&Bs, guesthouses and self catering options to choose from. Whatever you decide, the sea is always close, so look out for dolphins and be sure to taste the oysters.
Take a week and get with the big five in the Kruger National Park. Hear the roar of Africa, smell the bushveld and marvel at the wildlife that lives in these parts. See birds and animals like you never have before and fall in love with wild Africa.
If you're a bushbaby but need your fix of city life too, a Kruger-Cape Town combo is hard to beat. It's best to fly from Cape Town and hire a car nearer to the park.
Self drive is a good budget option, and many of the Kruger's rest camps offer guided drives and walks so you can benefit from expert knowledge too, but there are also numerous luxury options where you can stay at all-inclusive game lodges.
