Using public transport in Cape Town can be both practical, and an interesting cultural experience. Our minibus taxis - seating as many people as are willing to occupy an eight-seater - will cost about R3 a lift. It's the cheapest option, they're regular, plentiful, noisy and always full of a cross-section of people.
Railways link most of the major Cape Town destinations, although this is not always the safest option, especially after dark. A day-trip by train along the False Bay coastline to Simon's Town though is a must.
You can catch a regular taxi but these are can be expensive and you must make sure the metre is turned on. A safer and more fun option is the open vans known as 'Rikkis'. Try this for Asian-style transport in the City Bowl and surrounding areas. They're not the fastest moving vehicles, but they are mobile, quirky and reliable. You will need to phone a taxi company or the Rikkis to book a ride.
Your best option for getting around Cape Town is to rent a car as part of your holiday package, which Go2Africa can organise for you. This way you'll be free to explore Cape Town's surrounding areas too.
