Be practical and be prepared. Summers are warm but the evenings can still be cool. It rains in winter but there's still plenty of warm weather to take advantage of the beautiful outdoors.

Pack golf clubs (when it comes to golf courses, you are spoilt for choice in the Cape and clubs can be hired if you aren't keen on bringing them all that way with you), hiking boots or good walking shoes. If you're an athlete, running shoes, a surfboard and of course the paraglider must all come along.

Don't worry though, should you forget anything most gear can be bought or hired.

Sun protection is essential for summer, a hat, sunglasses, sunblock and common sense are all you need to enjoy the sun and still be able to step out at night comfortably and show off your new tan.

With Cape Town probably the most photogenic city in the world, bring your camera and loads of memory - you'll need it.

Cape Town is generally casual, with only the occasional place setting a dress code.
