Blouberg is situated across Table Bay from Cape Town and gives the classic view of the city and the mountain. This portion of the coast has long, empty beaches frequented by dog walkers and kite flyers. The crashing waves are perfect for windsurfing, kite-surfing and colourful hobie cats.
There is a whole host of restaurants within a stone's throw of the beach. You can see Robben Island quite clearly from the Blouberg beach. Few prisoners were able to escape, and fewer still succeeded in swimming to the mainland - strong currents and sharks sunk many escapees. But don't worry; the sharks feed on the seals far out in the bay and are rarely seen close to shore.
