This map of Cape Town shows how the city bowl is hemmed in by Table Mountain, Signal Hill, and the Atlantic Ocean. A more or less orderly network of streets crisscrosses the city centre and leads to Sea Point or Camps Bay and Clifton. The commercial harbour occupies the coastline of the city bowl, only a small proportion of which is dedicated to the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront.
Three main freeways lead out of the city centre. De Waal Drive sweeps along Table Mountain's countour. It meets up with Eastern Boulevard, arising straight out of the city centre, to form the N2 route that will lead up the coast onto the Garden Route. The inland N1 also starts in Cape Town near the Waterfront.
