Sea Point is Cape Town's most densely populated suburb, with hotels and apartments all along the high-rise seafront. Joggers, roller-bladers and dog walkers bounce along the wide promenade while, one block up, lies the busy Sea Point Main Road.
Along Main Road crazy drivers zip up and down while throngs of people walk around, renting videos, getting take-out or having afternoon drinks. Before the V&A Waterfront, this was Cape Town's evening hot spot, but is now more frequented by locals than by visitors.
Sea Point has one or two small, sandy coves but the coastline is mostly rocky with deep kelp beds. For swimmers, an Olympic size salt-water pool is set right against the ocean in Sea Point. The pool is a big hit on summer days, with its cool water, palm trees and wide garden.
There is also a putt putt (minigolf) course along the beach front which makes for cheap and easy fun. There's nothing like putting for par while a large ship sails along the horizon - bellowing its horn in a soft and distant burp. A dubious shed neighbours the minigolf course claiming to grant access to the biggest maze in the southern hemisphere.
There are a number of cafés and restaurants along Sea Point Beach Road that offer sprawling views and fantastic food.
Nearby, closer to the Waterfront, is the famous square red and white lighthouse, one of the oldest lighthouses in the country.
