Superior accommodation on a restored Cape Dutch farm estate in the Drakenstein Valley.
Farm To Kitchen - garden fresh fruit and vegetables supply the restaurant.
Pure Relaxation - stylishly decorated rooms with views of the mountains and gardens.
Location - situated on a gorgeous operating wine estate and farm.
Babylonstoren, founded in 1690, is a well preserved Cape Dutch farm estate with the beautiful backdrop of the Drakenstein Valley. The property consists of the manor house built in 1777, working vineyards, an old cellar and a wheat house. An unused homestead has been transformed into the resident restaurant, Babel, supplied by the heart of the property - the abundant fruit and vegetable garden. Historic gates adorn the courtyard and are surrounded by classically low whitewashed walls.
You can explore the historical Cape Dutch buildings, gorgeous mountains, thriving vineyards and daily workings of the 200 hectare farm.
If you are feeling active, cycle through the vineyards and orchards or take a walk down the river lined with 7000 clivias. Jog up Babylonstoren (tower of Babylon), the farm's namesake hill with wonderful views of the valley or canoe on the farm dam. Visit the gym and work out while being mesmerised by the garden and then pamper yourself at the spa offering massages, a sauna, a steam bath and an indoor plunge pool.
Lend a hand in the 8 acre garden; harvesting, pruning, planting or picking the various fruit, vegetables, flowers, herbs, nuts and spices or take a guided tour from one of the gardeners.
Relax at the swimming pool, that originally served as a farm reservoir, with a glass of freshly made juice or curl up on the couch during winter months beside a warm fireplace and well-stocked bookshelf with a glass of delicious wine from the Babylonstoren cellar.
Delight in some bird-watching; there are various bird species at Babylonstoren and the Fowl House is home to domestic farm fowls, pigeons and snail-harvesting ducks.
Babylonstoren is close to many outside activities. You can investigate the many wine farms of the Cape Winelands. It is also close to Cape Town, Cape Point, whale watching, shark cage diving and golf courses.
Babylonstoren is located in the Drakenstein Valley in the Cape Province and within access to the Cape Wineland's regions of Paarl, Franschoek and Stellenbosch as well as the city of Cape Town and Cape Point in South Africa.
