Bushmans Kloof is a privately owned 7, 500-hectare wilderness reserve which is world-renowned for its 130 rock art sites. In recognition of its rich cultural, historical and environmental significance, Bushmans Kloof has been declared a South African Natural Heritage Site.
Sunset game drives in open vehicles, accompanied by knowledgeable guides, are sure to be one of the highlights of your stay. Botanical walks, river and bush trails, mountain hikes, and bird watching are also available. Sundowners are served at one of the many dramatic vantage points that the reserve has to offer.
This is the perfect environment for painting, fly fishing, photography, stargazing, picnics, reading and studying the history of the San and their famous rock art, with lectures in the heritage centre.
Other activities include abseiling or a visit with a private guide to Wupperthal, the historic Moravian Mission Station which manufactures hand crafted leather goods. If you prefer more leisurely pursuits, you are welcome to delve into the extensive library, sip cocktails in the boma bar, watch wildlife videos, or play billiards.
At Bushmans Kloof the rates are fully inclusive of a light continental breakfast, coffee and muffins, a scrumptious brunch buffet after the morning excursion, afternoon teas - around a crackling log fire in winter, or on the riverbanks in summer - and delicious 4-course dinners.
Apart from the indoor dining room, there are also a number of spectacular outdoor dining venues, on the edge of a dramatic cliff, under enormous trees or a private dinner next to the dam or in an old, authentic shepherd's cottage.
Bushman's Kloof is renowned for its cuisine. The chef specialises in seasonal dishes with a touch of Cape heritage cooking, using organically grown farm produce, and fresh ingredients from the expansive walled vegetable, fruit and herb garden.
You will be invited to the wine cellar to select your wine from an award-winning wine list which features top South African wines.
