Situated in the KwaZulu-Natal Drakensberg, Montusi has a full and uninterrupted view of the Drakensberg's most famous part, the Amphitheatre escarpment.

Montusi's large, thatched main building has a reception area, restaurant, terrace, bar, lounge and meeting room, of which the lounge is a focal point for local and international guests as it is the area where everyone meets for chats, a game of scrabble/trivial pursuit/jenga or the occasional event such as slide shows, talks, etc. The "Ememeli" Bar has a pool table and darts area upstairs as well as plenty of room downstairs for drinks.

The fenced swimming pool, which looks out at the escarpment, has a thatched pavilion, which is great for braais or functions, and more shade is provided by old gum trees, and thatched umbrellas.

Doing nothing is probably the most favourite pastime at Montusi. With no wake-up calls (in fact, no telephone in the room), hot water all day long and massages, this place provides you with the opportunity to wind down and relax. For those seeking a bit more action, Montusi offers various activities such as tennis, horse riding, trapezing, fly fishing, golf, 4x4 drives, mountain biking and township and cultural tours.

Lying halfway between Johannesburg and Durban, Montusi is small and personal enough to help you organise a function, wedding or conference.

Children of all ages are welcome by arrangement. However, tranquillity is one of main attractions, so it is asked that children are closely supervised by parents.

Montusi Mountain Lodge is situated in KwaZulu-Natal, in the northern Drakensberg Mountains, halfway between Johannesburg and Durban.

Montusi's intimate restaurant has under-floor heating and a log fireplace. It has been awarded a Chef's Hat in Portfolio Collection and is said to be renowned for local cuisine with innovative menus.

Garden Suites: Each of the 14 suites stands alone in the garden and has panoramic views of the Drakensberg's Amphitheatre.

Each has a bedroom with an en-suite bathroom (bath & walk-in shower), a lounge with a TV, gas operated fireplace, private patio, tea and coffee making facilities and a bar fridge (for fresh milk). A bar service in the suite is available upon request, and each suite has a carport for one vehicle.

Each of the honeymoon suites has a king-size double bed and a corner tub for two.

Self-Catering Cottages: There is a limited number of self-catering cottages on the estate, providing space for between 4 to 6 visitors per chalet (which includes all persons over the age of 2; the number of visitors per chalet is fixed).

The cottages are generously furnished and equipped with a stove, fridge, freezer, microwave, under-floor heating, etc. Bedding and towels are provided. The cottages are serviced daily, but does not include dishwashing. Guests must bring their own supplies.
